THE VICTOR HARBOR HORSE TRAMS
Victor Harbor is a town situated at Encounter Bay about 70 km south of Adelaide which grew in importance when the harbour was found to be inadequate at Port Eliot further along the coast.
Granite Island, just off shore, was found to have a deep water bay so the shipping was transferred to there which also included extending the existing horse Railway. In 1894 as visitors flocked to the area a horse passenger tram started to run across the Causeway. An additional tram was added and these ran until 1931 being replaced by two horse trams from Moonta.
This service continued until 1954 when it was abandoned.
In 1986 the line was reinstated with 4 new horse trams which now run every day except Christmas Day. This DVD covers the history of the line as well as a complete return trip.
